5 Facts About the 2015 Open Enrollment Period

The 2015 Open Enrollment Period is next month, and excepting those applying for Medicaid or CHIP, this is the time that most will be eligible to enroll for health insurance. If you require any assistance, have any questions, or are simply hoping to apply, do not hesitate to contact us. Although enrollment eligibility expires after the Open Enrollment Period, exceptions are made for certain qualifying life events, making some individuals eligible for Special Enrollment Periods. Qualifying life events can include moving to a new state, income variations, marriage, divorce, and having a baby.

If you’re hoping to enroll for a new policy in November, here are some need-to-know facts:

1. The 2015 Open Enrollment Period is from November 15, 2014 to February 15, 2015.

2. If you don’t enroll for coverage during this time, you will be required to wait until the next enrollment period. (If you have any questions, please call us!)

3. If you enroll between the 1st and 15th of the month, your coverage will begin on the 1st of the next month. Otherwise, you will have to wait an additional month.

4. You can only qualify for insurance after the Open Enrollment Period if there is a qualifying life event.

5. Individuals enrolling for Medicaid or CHIP can enroll at any time, and owners of small businesses can offer coverage for their employees at any time.
