Just like the newer cars coming onto the market, those larger, multi-wheeled transports are incorporating more and more technology to help keep them, and us, safer as we drive down the road.

Some of these technologies include:

Collision Avoidance Systems. These systems are, in general terms, radar systems that can sense the distance between the truck and things in front of it (or other directions). These systems are now even integrated into the rest of a vehicle’s systems, doing things like warning the driver and applying brakes if needed.

Stability Control Systems. These systems sense when the vehicle starts to lose traction and help the driver take appropriate action, such as applying brakes or adjusting the steering.

Blind Spot and Rear Monitoring. Drivers of the larger trucks are virtually blind when it comes to certain areas near their trucks. These systems literally give the driver eyes in those places, making it easier to understand the traffic around them.

Telemetrics. Do you have a fitness tracker? Telemetrics will provide the same concept, monitoring things like heartbeat, blood pressure and movement of truck drivers. Such systems are gaining popularity for trucking companies to help their drivers stay aware of the dangers they can’t see, like drowsiness and physical fatigue.

These are just a few of the newer technologies making their way into the lives and tools of the transportation trade. And just as technology improves, so have the insurance products designed to carry the risks. Here at Latorre Insurance, our carrier partners are working to provide the best products available.
