July is almost over, but the heat of summer certainly is not.
Whether it’s jumping into a swimming pool, boating on the lake, or dipping your toes in the ocean, the summer sun drives everyone to the nearest body of water to cool down. And if you haven’t had a chance to take a waterfront vacation yet this summer, we bet you’ve been dreaming about it!
If you’re a parent, you know that, although taking your kids to the pool can be a lot fun, it can also be high-risk…and high-anxiety. Fortunately, there are several pool safety measures you can take to ensure that summertime fun is, well, fun!
Never Take Your Eyes Away From Your Children
Accidents happen in mere seconds! It’s scary but true. When your children are in or near the pool, keep a very close eye on them at all times. In fact, before your children even think about getting in the water alone, make sure they’ve taken swimming lessons and understand all water safety tips. For instance, tell them not to swim near pool pipes or drains because, in the event of an accident, these could prove to be dangerous entrapments. And, again, we can’t stress this enough, keep a close eye on your children at all times!
Educate Yourself
In the event of an emergency, there may only be moments to react. Before heading to the pool, learn how to perform CPR and other basic life-saving skills. And as was mentioned before, ensure that your children have learned to swim.
Invest In Less Stress
There are also a few pieces of equipment that can help make your pool even safer, including floaties and other flotation devices. For instance, a fence with latching gates can prevent a child from wandering in unsupervised, a secure cover can be installed to prevent pool entry, and there are even alarms to alert you if a child is in or near the pool!
We hope that the rest of your summer is fun, safe, and very relaxing!
