Our Thoughts Are With All Hurricane Sandy Victims

Our sincerest thoughts are with those suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  With all of the grocery purchasing, boarding of windows, evacuation plans, and general arrangements one must make in preparation for a hurricane, it can be a lot to bear, even before the storm strikes.  Unfortunately, these types of storms often take us by surprise, and sometimes the damage incurred is unavoidable.

We understand that now, after the hurricane has come and left its path of destruction, is a stressful time, which is why we want to make it a little bit easier on you, with this Post-Hurricane Insurance Checklist:

  1. If you have a list of your belongings, or, better yet, a compilation of pictures displaying them as they were before the hurricane, present this to your insurance agent.
  2. Be sure to contact your insurance provider immediately to discuss your options.
  3. Although you may not have acquired flood insurance before the storm hit, some agencies extend coverage after the flood damage has already occurred.  If not, you may be entitled to low-interest loans or grants.  This is certainly worth checking into.
  4. When hiring a contractor for repairs, make sure that they themselves are insured.

For any other questions or to discuss your options, do not hesitate to call the agents at the offices of Latorre Insurance in Charlotte.  We are here to help.
