October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Tomorrow is the first day of October, and as you may know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Although most are aware of the disease and know what it is, many forget to take the necessary steps for early prevention.

Breast cancer is a disease that affects many. Recent studies show that 12% of women will experience invasive cancer at some point in their lifetime, and although the risk for men is substantially lower, this disease can occur in men and women alike. Outside of lung cancer, breast cancer has the highest cancer mortality rate among women. Although individuals who have breast cancer in their families are at a heightened risk, 85% of breast cancer patients have no family history of the disease.

Although breast cancer is most often found in women, this is a disease that does not discriminate, which is why it is so important to raise breast cancer awareness and support for the patients and families suffering.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder of just how important it is to take the necessary steps to detect the disease early and to encourage your loved ones to do the same!
