5 Snow Day Safety Tips

Weather forecasters in the Charlotte area are predicting several inches of snow, starting tonight. Many schools and businesses are closing down tomorrow in preparation for the snow day. Besides, who doesn’t love building snowmen, starting snowball fights, and enjoying hot chocolate by the fire?

Although snow can be fun in many ways, it can wreak havoc on the roads if the proper preventive steps aren’t taken. Of course we support fun, but as your trusted provider of insurance and security, our top priority is always your safety.

Here are some tips for a fun and safe snow day:

1. Dress properly. Be sure to wear the right clothing for snowy weather. This includes a hat, scarf, coat, gloves, and socks; also, be sure that your shoes or boots are water-resistant.

2. Be careful walking. Snow can lead to slippery, icy sidewalks and stairways. Take your time while walking, and be sure to use the handrail on stairs.

3. Beware of black ice. Black ice is often the most dangerous because it blends right into the pavement. Whether you’re walking, jogging, biking, or driving, beware of black ice.

4. Drive slowly. If you must drive, take your time. Be aware of black ice, and be especially cautious when driving over bridges and around other vehicles and pedestrians.

5. Avoid the roads. Unless you absolutely have no choice, the best tip for snow safety is to stay off the roads altogether. Work from home, or, better yet, enjoy the snow day with the people you love the most!
