Charlotte Auto Insurance: The “Red Sports Car” Stereotype

There’s a little something called “the red sports car stereotype”. At Latorre Insurance in Charlotte, we are here to respond to your questions and concerns regarding insurance, so let’s take a look at this sports car myth.

A lot of people assume that the color of your car can affect their Charlotte auto insurance rates, when, in fact, you may never even tell your agent what color your car is. There are some things, however, that you will be expected to know about your car when applying for car insurance:

  • What is the year?
  • What is the make?
  • What is the model?
  • What is the body type?
  • What is the engine size?
  • And what is the age?

A second assumption is that sports car drivers pay higher rates because they get more tickets.  This isn’t always the case, and, what may be surprising, several sports cars have rates lower than average.

A final assumption regarding the sports car stereotype is that new cars are more likely to be stolen.  This is perhaps the greatest surprise, but older cars are actually the most likely to be stolen, and thieves tend to target them because, for whatever reason, they are often the easiest to steal.

Car insurance is a very important step for any car owner to take, so it’s important to know the truth, which is why the agents at Latorre Insurance are here to help!
