In Praise of Truckers

If you’ve ever come upon a line of trucks and thought, “Why are they getting in my way?”, it might be time to take a different look at our highway partners.

The trucking industry is a multi-billion dollar transportation system that impacts just about every other industry we have.

Trucks provide both pre-production and post-production transportation for things that we all use in our daily lives, from food and medicine to construction and manufacturing. In fact, it’s quite possible that, at this very moment, many of you reading this are doing so on a device that was provided to you via a truck!

As a matter of fact, the Charlotte metro area is one of the largest hubs for transportation of goods on the East Coast. From four wheels to 18, all you have to do is watch our highway system and try to count the number of trucks. Rest assured, you’ll lose count.  And the drivers who steer those behemoths do so in a professional manner every day and every night.  They sacrifice their home life, and are diligent in their pursuit of safety for everyone on the road.

So, when you start to think about playing tag with them, wondering why they’re “getting in your way,” remember this: What they have inside the trailer may be the exact thing needed to save the life of a loved one.  If they can’t deliver on time due to an altercation, we really don’t know who may suffer.

Give them room, and give them the respect they deserve. They help provide what we all need and want each and every day.
