If you tuned into our radio program last week, then you know we were talking all about motorcycles and your insurance coverage options available in North Carolina. We had such a fun time talking about motorcycles and motorcycle insurance with you that we want to keep the conversation going this week!
Today, we want to give you some tips for selecting and buying a motorcycle. Owning a motorcycle is more than a hobby or mode of transportation: it’s a lifestyle. And, just like any other major lifestyle decision, what is right for one person isn’t necessarily right for everyone.
For many, size is the most important factor when deciding on a motorcycle. They believe the bigger, the better. Although many go for the largest bike, without even considering its features, others might be better suited for something different. Before even picking out your bike, make a list of features you’d like to have and determine the amount you are willing to spend on a bike and accessories. It’s also important to consider the terrain on which you’ll be riding, as bikes that are more ideal for riding around town are going to differ from bikes for cross-country rides or for riding on rough terrain.
Sure, it can be tempting to go after the biggest bike with the coolest gadgets, but this might not be the best approach, especially when it comes to purchasing your first motorcycle. For many, riding a motorcycle is a sport, and just as you wouldn’t run a marathon on your first day of running, you wouldn’t make the same sort of decision with your bike. An expert dealer will be able to discuss your skill level and determine the bike most appropriate for you. Remember: Your height and weight should can also affect which size bike is best for you!
While talking to an expert, researching on your own, and looking at bikes are great ways to figure out which one is right for you, you should also take the time to sit on the bike and see how it feels. You should be comfortable, supporting the bike with ease. If the bike is supporting you, something isn’t right! Most recommend starting small and working your way up; finding the right size motorcycle for you is an important safety precaution that should never be ignored.
Although we might not be experts on motorcycles, we are experts on motorcycle insurance. Thinking about buying a motorcycle? Call us today to learn more about your coverage options.
