Sugar, carbs, salt, REPEAT!
If that’s what your Thanksgiving holiday felt like this year, you undoubtedly returned to work this morning feeling sluggish and unmotivated. Don’t worry, though; all hope is not lost! After several days of making poor dietary choices with little rest, all your body needs to rejuvenate is for you to make a few of the following positive, healthy decisions!
1. Drink plenty of water. Dehydration is one of the reasons you may be feeling less than your best today. After consuming high sodium foods (and perhaps even a glass of wine or two!), your body is craving water. Plus, water has been proven to keep you fuller longer, preventing you from overeating.
2. Get moving! Go for a walk on your lunch break, try a new class at the gym after work, or even sign up for a holiday 5k. Find ways to keep yourself motivated this holiday season, and keep that body moving!
3. Be positive. Many people feel guilt and remorse after the Thanksgiving splurge, but a negative attitude will only make things worse. Instead, focus on the great times you shared with family and friends over all of your favorite foods. Be positive, and your energy will be back in no time!
4. Get back on track. The holidays are a great time to enjoy yourself, and for many of us, food is a central part of the celebration. Instead of grabbing the fifth yeast roll and thinking, “Well, I’m already too far gone,” commit to returning to a healthy lifestyle immediately after the holiday.
5. Make good decisions. Instead of restricting or diving into an intense diet the week after a holiday, eat balanced, healthy meals. Start the day with a protein-rich breakfast, enjoy healthy snacks, and do your favorite form of exercise. Never punish your body!
By making healthy decisions and staying active, you’ll have your energy and motivation back…just in time for the next holiday. 😉 Jokes aside, we hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to assisting many of you during this holiday season.
