Charlotte Health Insurance Tips: PPACA–What Changed On 1/1/13?

As you’re probably aware, The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly referred to as Obamacare, is a federal healthcare law that was signed into a law in 2010.  Toward the end of 2012, there was much discussion over the changes that would occur on the first day of the New Year.  The law will continue taking affect until 2020, meaning that several of the changes will occur slowly, on a monthly, or even yearly, basis.  By 2020, the PPACA is anticipated to completely eradicate Medicare Part D coverage.

On January 1, 2013, however, a few aspects of the law became effective:

  • Changes have been made to preventive health coverage.

In an effort to make healthcare available to more individuals, the PPACA now provides funding to Medicaid programs within the state.  The goal is to make preventive services more affordable.

  • Primary care physicians will now receive increased Medicaid payments.

A government-funded change, primary care physicians must now be paid a minimum of 100% of Medicare payment rates.

More changes will occur in October of this year.  To learn more about the newly effective changes of the PPACA or about the changes to come, visit https://latorreinsurance.com, or call our agents at the location nearest you.  They are happy to answer your questions about how the PPACA might affect your Charlotte health insurance coverage:
